Indian Rhinoplasty

Most Indian patients seek to improve the appearance of their nose without erasing their heritage and identity. It takes skill and sensitivity to achieve a cosmetic result that beautifies the face while respecting and preserving ethnicity.

There are technical challenges when refining an ethnic nose that deserve special consideration. Indian people often have wider noses than Europeans. They also have thicker skin (as do Hispanics, Asians, Africans, and people from the Middle East/Mediterranean) and this makes refining the nasal tip more challenging. A prominent hump and/or a drooping tip may be an additional concern.

About Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the outside of the nose. It can remove a bump, lift the tip, lift the bridge, narrow the nostrils, raise a droop, fix a cleft, correct asymmetry, and in general, change your entire profile. While some cosmetic improvements can be made with non-surgical rhinoplasty using injectable fillers and implants, only surgery can reduce the size of an enlarged or make a wide nose narrower. The results are permanent

During rhinoplasty, a facial plastic surgeon who is also an otolaryngologist or ENT (a specialist who cares for the ears, nose, and throat) may also correct any structural defects of the nose. For example, Dr. Yagoda can straighten a deviated septum to improve airflow. If done correctly, the end result of a rhinoplasty procedure can be a nose that not only looks better but works better too!

Because rhinoplasty can make such a dramatic difference in your appearance, because the nose has many intricate internal structures critical to its function, and because the procedure demands both excellent surgical skills and aesthetic judgment, Dr. Yagoda sees a number of patients who seek revisions of a previous procedure. Revision rhinoplasty can be challenging because the surgeon must work with the results of a previous procedure, creating a whole new layer of complication and potentially limiting the options for improvement. If you’re dissatisfied with a previous rhinoplasty, you’ll want to put yourself in the best possible hands.

Singers, Take Note!

Many singers are reluctant to have a surgical rhinoplasty because they believe it will change the quality of their singing voices. Barbra Streisand famously refused to have her nose done. But singers should know that a rhinoplasty only changes the clarity of sounds that are produced purely through the nose—so, the m, n, and ng sounds. Typically with a rhinoplasty, the exertion that produces nasal sounds will be lessened, and thus these sounds will simply become clearer. Barbra didn’t want to lose her signature nasal twang, but for most people, a renewed clarity in the voice is a good thing!
