Short Nose

When we think of rhinoplasty, we tend to imagine a procedure for making an oversized nose straighter and smaller. But not all patients who seek nose-reshaping surgery want to downsize. Some, in fact, come to Dr. Yagoda seeking a longer nose.

Because nose-lengthening surgery entails augmenting tissue and not merely excising it, it’s one of the most challenging procedures in rhinoplasty. As you might imagine, it’s far easier for a surgeon to remove an excess of cartilage and bone than it is to add to it. If you’re contemplating this procedure, you’ll need the skills of a true rhinoplasty specialist such as Dr. Yagoda.

When Dr. Yagoda sees a patient who wants a longer nose, she first determines if the nose is actually too short or whether it merely looks too short. While there is a ratio that describes the ideal length to height proportions of a “normal” nose, numbers don’t tell the entire story. What is the angle formed between the tip of your nose and your upper lip? What is the width of your face and what is its length? How does your nose harmonize with your other features and how would changing its length affect those proportions?

If your nose would benefit from lengthening, you will likely need some form of graft or nasal implant . During your consultation, Dr. will discuss your options, including her recommendation for a closed or open rhinoplasty.
